Being a Pre-Health Student is not easy, but you don't have to go it alone. Joining clubs, frats, and forums are a great way to build a network of like-minded people who can offer friendship and expertise as you continue on your career path.  Here, we have compiled a list of various resources you can use to build your support system. 

High School Clubs

  • National Honor Society

    • A national organization that recognizes outstanding high school students in grades 10-12. 

    • Four central pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character

    • Can get leadership experience as well as interact with students who have similar goals 

  • Doctors Without Borders​

    • International organization that volunteers in global communities who are in need of medical professionals

    • High school students are able to fundraise and raise awareness for their mission.

  • HOSA​​

    • Health Occupations Students of America

    • National organization providing guidance to high school students who are interested in pursuing healthcare-related careers

    • Learn about medical careers as well as take part in their competitions! 

  • Start your own pre-med club​

    • Students can take the opportunity to create their own pre-medical club on campus if one isn’t there already

    • Allow for conversation between individuals who are also interested in medicine and create space to brainstorm community events or volunteer ideas! 

  • AMSA​

    • American Medical Student Association, or AMSA, is a student-led, national association

    • Gives students the opportunity to give back to the community, learn about medicine today, and create a supportive pre-med community for students

    • Provide resources regarding classes, medical school, research, and much more. 

  • Operation Smile

    • Provide free surgeries for individuals born with cleft lip or cleft palate 

    • Gives students an opportunity for leadership and community service in order to help those in need

    • Aim to educate members and the general public about these issues.  

  • MEDLIFE

    • MEDLIFE, or Medicine, Education, Development for Low-Income Families Everywhere, aims to help families in poverty and enable them to live healthier lives

    • Opportunity to visit places within the world in order to provide individuals with relief 

  • American Medical Women's Association ​

    • AMWA is a professional educational organization of women physicians and pre-med students

    • Serve as a voice for women's health

    • Resources such as annual conferences, a change to meet physicians, and volunteering 

  • Medical Reserve Corps​​

    • Group of volunteers that engage with the local communities in order to strengthen public health and improve preparedness 

    • Volunteers can be called on in times of emergencies, composed mostly of EMTs. 

  • Global Medical Training

    • Run by its motto "learn by doing"

    • Students are given the chance to participate in hands-on diagnoses and treatments of patients in Latin America

  • Volunteers for Medical Outreach ​​

    • Students come together to raise funds, with proceeds going towards mobile health clinics, vaccinations, and corrective surgeries in underserved areas

    • During summers, students are able to travel abroad to volunteer with doctors to gain clinical experience 

  • VIDA Medical Volunteer

    • Students are given the opportunity to volunteer abroad and play a part in bettering the public health within global communities.

    • On campus, students receive knowledge on clinical practices demonstrated in those trips and a variety of panels and events.

  • Kamma Gamma Delta 

    • Professional sorority for women studying medicine-related professions 

    • Resources such as alumane networking, close sisterhood, and a supportive pre-med community

  • Alpha Epsilon Delta

    • Allows for the connection of similarly interested students to come together and create contacts between health professionals and pre-health students

    • Variety of threads and forums to provide students information on a diverse set of topics, such as dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, psychology 

    • Interviews and Q&A sessions with medical professionals that are in the field
